Zoo Educator– Part-time Year Round
Cameron Park Zoo’s Education Department is looking for part-time Zoo Educator.
As a member of the Education Department, the Zoo Educator would be responsible for:
- Leading our Animal Encounters: Kangaroo Walkabout, Giraffe Feeding, Tortoise Encounter on the weekends until summer then during the week through the summer
- Assisting with the care of our Animal Ambassadors
- Facilitating offsite programs such as Zoo Tales to You and tabling at community events
- Facilitating onsite programs such as animal presentations, behind the scenes tours, and field trip add ons
- Checking in field trip registrations
- Setting up and working special events
- Keeping the Corwin, Estes, Jaynes Education Center in pristine condition
- Handling other miscellaneous jobs as assigned
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Self-starter with good organizational skills
- Good communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Google docs, Google Drive, ect.
- Willing to handle Animal Ambassadors, including reptiles and invertebrates
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds
- Able to walk long distances and stay on feet for extended periods of time
- Able to work outside in a variety of conditions

Zoo Camp Counselor Position- Seasonal 40 hours
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am-5:00pm or 8:30am-4:30pm
Summary:
Camp counselors work together as a team to create a connection between campers and animals that will impact the campers desire to care for the natural world. They lead lessons and activities both indoors and outdoors while monitoring camper safety and participation. Counselors also are responsible for creating an exciting and welcoming environment through their enthusiastic pursuit of accomplishing camp goals.
Age groups:
- 5-6 year olds
- 7-8 year olds
- 9-11 year olds
Four camp counselors will be assigned to each group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervises the safety of campers
• Lead games, activities, and crafts as directed by the curriculum and engage in educational discussions throughout camp
• Responsible for their group during the camp day, participating in all activities and monitoring camper participation and enjoyment
• Must work with other other counselors as a team
• Respectful of camp schedule and is prompt and on time to activities and Keeper Chats
• Manage check in and drop off for their group
Qualifications:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must commit to working Monday through Friday during May 26th till July 31st
• Able to attend required staff training Monday through Friday during May 26th till June 5th
• Enjoys working with children
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups
• Demonstrates enthusiasm for goals and mission of Zoo Camp
• Strong leadership and collaborative skills
• Able to work independently and on a team
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Customer service skills
Physical demands:
Counselors will be outside, leading and participating in a variety of physical activities with campers. Counselors should be able to tolerate the heat for long periods of time, and able to walk throughout the Zoo multiple times a day.
