Zoo Crew!
Zoo Crew is the Cameron Park Zoo’s Teen Volunteer program where students 14-17 years old can gain hands on experience in the zoo world. Must be 14 years old by June 1st.
All Zoo Crew will assist with our summer camp program and guest engagement projects. First year Zoo Crew will not be working with animal care departments or animal handling. Second and Third year Zoo Crew may have the opportunity to work closely with keeper staff in designated areas; the first priority will be assisting with summer camp program. Your schedule may change based on the department needs. This program is a great way to see what the zoo is all about, and different career paths they can take within a zoo setting.
This program is very competitive and every summer we only admit 35 teens into the program. We are looking for motivated, independent teens who are passionate about Cameron Park Zoo and wildlife.

Zoo Crew Dates:
Once selected the teens will be able to volunteer from June to December, but the teens have to hit 80 hours during the months of June and/or July. During the program teens will have to commit at least two weeks of the summer Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Mandatory Overnight Training 6:00 pm May 29– 4:00 pm May 30, 2026 (no exceptions or accommodations). One parent is required to attend the first 2 hours of training.
One parent or guardian must attend this portion of the training. If a parent or guardian cannot attend, the Zoo Crew will not be permitted into the program. During the portion of the training, we will go over the rules of Zoo Crew, give important dates, and go over any questions or concerns.
During the training, Zoo Crew will learn all about the zoo protocols, how to engage with guests, and how to set up and implement that year’s camp activities. Students will be provided with dinner, breakfast, and lunch.
FAQ
What if the Zoo Crew applicant cannot attend the mandatory overnight?
Unfortunately, there are no exceptions or make up dates for the training. This is a unique experience where teens will learn what they need for the summer and get to know each other so they cannot miss out.
Can I pick up my student from the mandatory overnight training early?
This is a mandatory training that is packed full of activities so there are no options to leave early, because they will miss out on something. Also, no exceptions for returning Zoo Crew either.
