Ocelot
Leopardus pardalis

Although these beautifully coated animals are found primarily in South America, ocelots can be spotted as far north as Texas.  These smaller cats tend to be solitary, nocturnal animals and hunt most of their prey on the ground where they have dense cover.

Conservation Status – They are protected by the Lacey Act and in the United States by the Recovery Plan for the Listed Cats of Arizona and Texas.

Did you know?
Most members of the cat family avoid the water, but the ocelot is actually a very good swimmer.
